Crockpot Barbecue Ribs

Making barbecue ribs in a crockpot is a convenient and easy way to enjoy this delicious dish. Here's a simple recipe for crockpot barbecue ribs:

Ingredients:

  • 2 racks of baby back ribs
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ribs:

    • Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs. This can be done by loosening a corner with a knife and then pulling it off with a paper towel for better grip.
  2. Season the Ribs:

    • In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper to create a dry rub.
    • Rub the spice mixture evenly over both sides of the ribs.
  3. Preheat and Sear (Optional):

    • If you have time, you can sear the ribs in a hot skillet for a few minutes on each side to develop a nice crust. This step is optional but adds extra flavor.
  4. Layer in the Crockpot:

    • Cut the racks into smaller sections to fit in the crockpot.
    • Place the ribs in the crockpot with the meaty side facing outward.
  5. Mix Barbecue Sauce:

    • In a bowl, mix together the barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, and water.
  6. Pour Sauce Over Ribs:

    • Pour the barbecue sauce mixture over the ribs, making sure they are well coated.
  7. Cook:

    • Cover the crockpot and cook on low for 6-8 hours or until the meat is tender and easily pulls away from the bones.
  8. Finish in the Oven (Optional):

    • If you prefer a caramelized crust, transfer the ribs to a baking sheet lined with foil. Brush with additional barbecue sauce and broil in the oven for a few minutes until the sauce caramelizes.
  9. Serve:

    • Serve the crockpot barbecue ribs with your favorite side dishes, such as coleslaw, baked beans, or cornbread.

Enjoy your delicious and tender crockpot barbecue ribs!
