Crockpot Barbecue Ribs
Making barbecue ribs in a crockpot is a convenient and easy way to enjoy this delicious dish. Here's a simple recipe for crockpot barbecue ribs:
Ingredients:
- 2 racks of baby back ribs
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
- 1 cup barbecue sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions:
Prepare the Ribs:
- Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs. This can be done by loosening a corner with a knife and then pulling it off with a paper towel for better grip.
Season the Ribs:
- In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper to create a dry rub.
- Rub the spice mixture evenly over both sides of the ribs.
Preheat and Sear (Optional):
- If you have time, you can sear the ribs in a hot skillet for a few minutes on each side to develop a nice crust. This step is optional but adds extra flavor.
Layer in the Crockpot:
- Cut the racks into smaller sections to fit in the crockpot.
- Place the ribs in the crockpot with the meaty side facing outward.
Mix Barbecue Sauce:
- In a bowl, mix together the barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, and water.
Pour Sauce Over Ribs:
- Pour the barbecue sauce mixture over the ribs, making sure they are well coated.
Cook:
- Cover the crockpot and cook on low for 6-8 hours or until the meat is tender and easily pulls away from the bones.
Finish in the Oven (Optional):
- If you prefer a caramelized crust, transfer the ribs to a baking sheet lined with foil. Brush with additional barbecue sauce and broil in the oven for a few minutes until the sauce caramelizes.
Serve:
- Serve the crockpot barbecue ribs with your favorite side dishes, such as coleslaw, baked beans, or cornbread.
Enjoy your delicious and tender crockpot barbecue ribs!
